Overwhelmed

I am now at the point of being overwhelmed as a mother. So many people have told me this is the best stage, but I can't believe it is true. I don't know what my son needs because he can't tell me. I have to go through what might be wrong. For example, I have to check his diaper, see if he is hungry, see if he is tired, and the list goes on. I just have to know from the other mothers, is this really the best stage? If so, I am extremely nervous about being a mother and hope that I can get more into a schedule.
